*Parents are invited to visit the Career Center during school hours for valuable information on colleges, scholarships, career objectives, and more. (The Career Center is located by the library.)
*Beginning in August, Peer Tutoring will be offered four days a week. Tutoring will begin immediately after school and last until 4:00 at the following locations on campus: Monday's - Room I-36 sponsored by Beta Club, Tuesday's - Room I-34 sponsored by Mu Alpha Theta, Wednesday's - Room J-46 sponsored by National Honor Society, and Thursday's - Room I-35 sponsored by the Student Council.
*Attention Class of 2013! The Get-2-College Center is pleased to offer a Senior Bootcamp on Monday, June 25, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.! Students can get ready for college with a free summer workshop. Topics covered will include College Exploration, College Application Help, Resume Writing, and Scholarship Searches. There will also be college students there to answer questions about what college is really like. The workshop will be held at the ESF Get-2-College Center in Ocean Springs. *The Get-2-College Center will host a Junior Jumpstart Workshop for all upcoming juniors on Tuesday, June 26, 2012. The workshop will run from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Topics to be covered include ACT Prep, College Exploration, Career Help, and Scholarship Search. Pre-registration is required. *The Get-2-College Center will host several ACT Summer Workshops. The workshops will be held at the ESF Get-2-College Center in Ocean Springs. *Mississippi State University, Division of Academic Outreach & Continuing Education is once again offering their Reading Skills and Speed Reading Programs for Children and Adults. The ages range from 4-years-old to adults. Classes are taught by professional instructors from the Institute of Reading Development. Classes will meet at Christian Collegiate Academy, 12200 Dedeaux Road, Gulfport, MS and begin in July. Class sizes are limited. For more information or to register, please call 1-800-979-9151.
*The University of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce the summer visit opportunities; “Ready…Set…Pitt” and “So You Want To Be A…” Programs. These programs will introduce students entering their senior year in the fall 2012 to the Admissions and Financial Aid process at the University of Pittsburgh. These programs are designed for prospective students and their families, will provide helpful information about the college selection process. The dates for “Ready…Set…Pitt” are June 30, July 14, 21, 28, August 4 & 11, 2012. The dates for “So You Want To Be A…” are June 29, July 13, 20, 27, August 3 & 10, 2012. *The Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant (MESG) - Mississippi offers several different financial aid options to qualifying applicants. Created by the Mississippi Legislature, these programs are designed to provide financial aid to Mississippi residents attending state approved public and nonprofit two-year and four-year eligible colleges and universities. Initial Eligibility Requirements Includes: 3.5 GPA, minimum of 29 on the ACT, be enrolled and accepted as a full-time student at an approved postsecondary institution in Mississippi. The application deadline is September 15th of every year.
*The Mississippi Resident Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG) - Mississippi offers several different financial aid options to qualifying applicants. Created by the Mississippi Legislature, these programs are designed to provide financial aid to Mississippi residents attending state approved public and nonprofit two-year and four-year eligible colleges and universities. Initial Eligibility Requirements Includes: 2.5 GPA, minimum of 15 on the ACT, received less that the full Federal Pell Grant, be enrolled and accepted as a full-time student at an approved postsecondary institution in Mississippi. The application deadline is September 15th of every year.
*ACT is excited to offer “Free ACT Student Web Accounts”. All students are eligible and encouraged to establish a free ACT student Web account, even if they choose to register by mail. Students who have tested through national or state testing can “connect to” their previous records by providing their Social Security number or ACT ID when they establish their accounts. Once an account is established, they will be able to manage their records online, including options of viewing scores, requesting ASRs, reviewing and updating their previous responses to the non-test sections for another test date, requesting changes to their registrations, and receiving e-mail reminders from ACT. Students will also be able to print their ACT admission Ticket. There are no fees for viewing scores. To register for your Web account, visit www.actstudent.org.

*SENIORS - Now is the time to apply for college financial aid! The Mississippi Student Financial Aid Programs are now available for entering college freshmen. Students can obtain more information and apply online at www.riseupms.com. (Click on Entering Freshman)
*Young men can now register with Selective Service using the Internet. The website is http://www.sss.gov. All young men living in the U.S., with very few exceptions, are required to register within 30 days of turning 18. Registration is Federal law. It is also required to stay eligible for many Federal and state benefits, including student financial aid, job training, and jobs in the Executive Branch of the Federal government, as well as jobs with the U. S. Postal Service.
*The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation (the Council) was established to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our communities and encourage more people to serve. The Council created the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, demonstrate commitment and inspire others to engage in volunteer service. Students between the ages 5-14 that serve 50 hours a year or more are eligible for the President’s Volunteer Service Award Program. Students between the ages of 15-25 that serve 100 hours a year are eligible.
