    Mr. Tuepker will address the board concerning the proposed school calendar for the 2004-05 school year

 

F.  Ratify Phone Poll of School Board taken on 3/24/04 to Accept Donation and Issue Purchase Order for Playground Equipment

    The Superintendent recommends ratifying a phone poll to accept a donation from Quarles PTO and issue a purchase order for playground equipment for Quarles

   

G.  Business

The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items

     (1) Rebecca Cullifer, Gina Montana and five students to National Association of Student Councils Convention in Las Vegas, NV on June 26-30, 2004

(2) LBHS Tennis Team to Jackson, MS on April 25-27, 2004 for state tennis tournament

(3) Bethany Spayde, Christine Kayes, Gail Donald and AP Calculus & Physics students to Six Flags in New Orleans on April 30, 2004 to attend Physics Festival – ratify poll vote taken on April 14, 2004 to cut a check: Holder yes, Leatherwood yes, Pruitt yes

(4) LBHS Cheerleading Squad to Panama City, FL on July 26-29, 2004 to attend cheerleading camp

(5) Fifth grade teachers and students from Reeves School to Exploreum in Mobile, AL on May 10, 2004

(6) Fifth grade Quarles Discovery students to the Challenger Learning Center located at the Louisiana Arts and Science Center in Baton Rouge, LA on May 11, 2004

             (14)  Anne Ladner’s 4th grade class at Harper McCaughan to New Orleans to Aquarium of Americas and river boat ride on May 13th

    e.  Disposal of surplus equipment

f.  Acceptance of grant in the amount of $1,000 from Gulf Coast Community Foundation

 

H.  Budget Amendments

    The Superintendent recommends approval of budget amendments to the FY’04 budget.

 

I.  Proposed Fee for Technology Discovery and Theater Classes

    The Superintendent recommends approval to charge a fee of $10 for Technology Discovery and $5.00 each for Theater I, II; Theater Production and Dramatic Criticism

 

J.  Re-Direct Use of Athletic Funds

    The Superintendent recommends the Athletic Coordinator be allowed to use funds originally designated to re-sod baseball infield for improvements to visitor side dressing room at football field.

 

K.  Request Payment for Professional Services from Montgomery Barnett

    The Superintendent recommends payment to Montgomery Barnett of $622.90 for professional services on $150,000 note issue

   

L.  Personnel

 

1.    Rescind Resignation

      The Superintendent recommends the board rescind the following resignation:

-       Sybil Cheek has changed her mind about retiring at the end of this school year. She is a Food Service Assistant/Level 10 at Reeves.

-        

2.   Change Effective Date of Employment

          The Superintendent recommends the board change the effective date of employment for Elizabeth Vawter (teacher assistant at Harper McCaughan) from February 16, 2004 to February 17, 2004, as recommended by Principal Holmes.

 

3.  Employment Recommendations  

The Superintendent recommends employment of the following personnel for the remainder of the 2003-04 school year:

 

Non-Certified

·        Pamela Scarborough from the position of receptionist to the position of payroll clerk (D-salary schedule, level 2, D1 at a salary of $21,635.00, effective April 15, 2004.

·        Dana Black as food service assistant/Level 0 $6.17 per hour at Reeves Elementary, effective March 23, 2004, replacing Ellen Rawls.

·        Morina Jacobs as food service assistant substitute at $5.75 per hour, effective March 16, 2004

·        Kimalayn Dunning as food service assistant substitute @ $5.75 per hour, effective March 16, 2004

·        James Forrester as substitute bus driver

·        Alex Moringstar as a part time bus driver

 

The Superintendent recommends employment of   certified staff for the 2004-05 school

year at Long Beach High School, Long Beach Middle School, Quarles Elementary School, Harper McCaughan Elementary School, Reeves Elementary School, Department of Student Services, and Alternative School.

 

 4.  Resignation

     Amy Landers, teacher at Long Beach Middle School,      is resigning for the 2004-05 school year. 

 

M.   Adoption of School Calendar for 2004-05

     The Superintendent recommends the board adopt the school calendar for the 2004-05 school year.

 

N.   Request Approval of Off-line Checks for Prom Expense and AP Scholars Tests

     The Superintendent recommends approval to off line a check not to exceed $1,500 for a band for prom and to off line a check for AP Scholars tests.

 

O.   Student Release Request

     The Superintendent recommends that Samuel Tucker be released from Long Beach Schools to attend Biloxi

     Schools for the 2004-05 school year.

 

P.   Payment for Limestone and Dirt for Reeves Parking Lot

     The Superintendent recommends paying this additional bill to the claims docket in the amount of $6,693.30 for limestone and dirt for the Reeves parking lot.

 

Q.   Donation of Board Gavel to School District

     President Leatherwood received a gavel from MSBA which she will present to the school district.

 

R.   MSBA School Board Meetings Manual

     President Leatherwood will recommend the school board use the MSBA handbook as a guideline.

 

S.   Request by YMCA to Use School Facilities for their Summer Camp

     The Superintendent recommends letting the YMCA use school facilities for their summer camp.
