1. The Yearbook Staff would like to address the board about financial assistance for the 2003-04 yearbook.

1. Consent Agenda
The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items:
a. Approval of the claims docket
b. Trip approvals
(1) Rebecca Cullifer, Carrolyn Hamilton and appropriate Student Council members to Southern Association of Student Council Convention in Houston, Texas on October 11-14, 2003
(2) LBMS Student Council Officers and Advisors to Southern States Conference on October 11-14, 2003
(3) High School Band to Theodore, AL on October 25, 2003 for Marching Contest
(4) Indoor Percussion Ensemble to Pensacola, FL on March 5-6, 2004 for Southern Regional for WGI
(5) Indoor Percussion Ensemble to Nashville, TN on February 20-22, 2004 for Mid-South WGI Contest
(6) Forensics Organization to St. Andrew’s High School in Jackson, MS on November 17-18, 2003 for Forensics tournament

(11) Honor Choir students selected for MS All-State Choir to Jackson, MS on February 5-7, 2004 for ACDA/MMEA Convention
(12) Cherie Griffith to Washington, D.C. on November 13, 14, 17, 2003 to attend National Board Convention
(13) Discovery classes at Reeves Elementary to the Exploreum in Mobile, AL on October 3, 2003.
(14) LBHS Show Choir to Fayetteville, GA on March 13, 14, 2004 for showchoir competition
c. Disposal of Surplus Equipment and Calculators
d. Requests to Use School Facilities
(1) Cub Scouts requesting to use Harper McCaughan Cafeteria from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month from August-May for den meetings
(2) Boy Scouts of America requesting to use Harper McCaughan Cafeteria from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month for Wolf Scout meetings
(3) Gulfport Little Theatre is requesting to use Harper McCaughan Stage for rehearsal of production of Jekyll and Hyde on September 1, 4, 8 and 11 from 6:30-9:30
e. Approval to pay substitutes

g. Accept donation of $2,963.13 from Reeves PTO to Reeves School for purchase of new sound/electronic equipment
E. Budget Amendments
The Superintendent recommends approval of budget amendments to the FY’04 budget and the establishment
of a central office discretionary fund for use by the superintendent.
F. Approval of Calendar of Events and Fund Raisers for Long Beach Choral Department Association
The Superintendent recommends the board approve the fund raisers for the Choral Department.
G. Approval of Cultural Interactive Partnership in Education with USAF
The Superintendent recommends Quarles School be approved to join in a cultural interactive Partnership in Education with USAF.
H. Student Releases
The Superintendent recommends that we deny/accept/release the following students:
· Accept child of Tracy Hanson (employee of LBSD) from Harrison County School District
· Release child of Angela August to attend Gulfport Schools where parent is employed
· Release child of Sharon Harris to attend Harrison County School District where parent is employed
· Accept children of Adrianne Powers (employee of LBSD) from Pass Christian School District
· Release child of Curtis Decell from Long Beach School District to attend Biloxi Schools, dependent on family moving in October, 2003
I. Acceptance of Grants
The Superintendent recommends acceptance of the following grants
· $2,000 grant from State Department of Education for professional development activities to improve student learning and performance
· $3,000 grant from Gulf Coast Business Services Corporation for reimbursement for teachers to attend professional development (Capturing Kids Hearts)
· $750 grant from MS Power Education Foundation (New Teacher Assistance Grant) to Cherie Griffith to be used for classroom materials, supplies and equipment
· $1,100 grant from MS Power Education Foundation to Cherie Griffith to attend the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards 2003 National Conference in Washington, D.C.
J. Accept Contract Amounts for Game Officials
The Superintendent recommends accepting the contract amounts for games officials from the Mississippi High School Activities Association
K. Acceptance of Contracted Services
The Superintendent recommends acceptance of contracted services with payments by offline checks to
· Rocket Pest Control for pest control services
· Southern Waste for garbage hauling for schools and cafeteria
· Anchor Linen for dishtowels/mops
· Dictograph for alarms at HS/MS
· Desert Hills for video surveillance cameras
· Avaya Communications (maintenance on telephones)
· The following contracted services for student services

The Superintendent recommends the board accept a student previously released to Pass Christian Schools.
M. Personnel
1. Resignations
The Superintendent recommends the board accept the following resignation:
· Barbara J. Notter, teacher assistant at Harper McCaughan, effective August 15, 2003
2. Employment Recommendations
The Superintendent recommends employing the following individuals for the 2003-04 school year to be paid according to the approved salary schedules for their positions:
Non-Certified Personnel
· Lori Labat as teacher assistant at Harper
McCaughan, effective August 25, 2003,
pending passing test results
· Rachel Sawyer as 2nd grade instructional
assistant at Harper McCaughan, effective
August 18, 2003
· Jennie Jackson as permanent substitute at
Long Beach High School
· Carolyn Lassabe as full time substitute at
Long Beach Middle School
· Angela Collins, Jeffrey Grandberry, Susan
Rowe, Susan Tucker, Kim Stringer will be
riding buses to assist with special
education students throughout the school
year to be paid at an hourly rate of $5.33
per hour from Part B Special Education Funds
· Jeff Morse as a substitute bus driver
· Kenneth “Tiny” Sipler as a substitute and
part time bus driver
· Jessica Brown as a student worker in the
high school lunchroom @ $5.00 per hour,
effective August 18, 2003
· The following individuals as food service

· Brenda Cuevas as first grade teacher
assistant at Harper McCaughan, pending

Certified Personnel
· Laurel Warren as kindergarten teacher at
Reeves, retroactive to August 21, 2003
· Lori Price as part time Title I teacher at
Quarles Elementary, effective September 9,
2003 for 4.5 hour per day
· Chad Rhodes as special education teacher at the alternative school, with permission to apply for emergency certification. He will receive substitute pay beginning September 9, 2003 until certification is received.
· Expand part time teaching contract for Diane Fox at Harper McCaughan School to full time contract for the remainder of this school year.
· Andrea Fairley as special education teacher for home hospital and Long Beach Middle School, effective upon board approval and permission to apply for emergency certification
3. Split Sponsorship and Supplement
The Superintendent recommends that the supplement for the Middle School Beta Club Sponsor be split between Ms. Melissa Westbrook and Mrs. Gabby Flowers
4. Ratify poll vote taken on August 26, 2003 on reissuing teacher contracts and authority to pay teachers their normal wages until certificates are received.
The Superintendent recommends reissuing new contracts to the following teachers who received new certificates dated after July 1, 2003:

The Superintendent recommends new contracts be
reissued to the following teachers who received
certificates after the current school year
started and to pay these teachers at their
normal daily teacher rate from August 4, 2003
until the date they received their certificate:

5. Approval of National Board Mentor
The Superintendent recommends that Carmen Peters continue to serve as National Board Mentor.

O. Request Adoption of Revised Leave Policy
The Superintendent is recommending adoption of a revised leave policy, without waiting 30 days.
P. Request Permission to Lease Parking Lots
The Superintendent is requesting permission to lease the Church Parking Lot and Steve Morgan Field Parking lot.
Q. Request to use Three Mill Funds
The Superintendent is requesting permission to use three mill funds to replace a sidewalk awning at Harper McCaughan, purchase a lawnmower, and pave parking areas around schools.
R. Executive Session
The Superintendent will recommend going into executive session on a personnel matter.
