E. Business
1. Consent Agenda
The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items:
a. Approval of the claims docket
b. Trip approvals
(1) Spanish I classes to New Orleans, LA on October 28, 2003 for field trip for cultural enrichment
(2) Anne Ladner’s 4th grade class to the Exploreum in Mobile, AL on October 31st
(3) Fourth grade classes at Reeves Elementary to the Exploreum in Mobile, AL on October 16th
(4) Fifth grade classes at Quarles Elementary to Aquarium/Imax and Zoo in New Orleans, LA on November 13th
(5) LBHS Key Club Members to Mandeville, LA on November 8th for a convention
c. Disposal of Surplus Equipment
d. Requests to Use School Facilities
(1) Taekwondo Plus is requesting to use the high school gym on October 11 and December 13, 2003 for promotional testing.
(2) Ratify telephone poll vote taken on September 29th to allow Church of the Good Shepherd to use the high school or middle school gym for an evening activity on October 23, 2003
(3) Charles Lembright is requesting to use Harper McCaughan Cafeteria for a birthday celebration on November 29th for his father who is turning 100
(4) Cub Scouts (Den 3, Bears, Pack 321) are requesting to use Reeves Cafeteria for meetings on the first and third Monday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
(5) Cub Scouts (Laura Gray) is requesting to use Harper McCaughan Cafeteria every other Thursday from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. for tiger cub meetings.
e. Approval to pay substitutes

g. Acceptance of Direct Services Grant written by Carole McKellar not to exceed $10,000 from the State Department of Education
F. Petty Cash
The Superintendent recommends increasing the petty cash fund at Quarles Elementary from $25.00 to $50.00 and establishing a petty cash fund of $25.00 at the alternative school.
G. Budget Amendments
The Superintendent recommends approval of budget amendments to the FY’04 budget
H. Quotes on New Lawnmower
Quotes for a new lawnmower will be opened on October 7, 2003. The Superintendent will make a recommendation at the board meeting after reviewing the quotes.
I. Student Releases
The Superintendent recommends releasing the children of Michelle Bozlee from the Long Beach School District to attend school in Hancock County where Mrs. Bozlee teaches.
J. Changes to Meal Count Procedures Policy
The Superintendent recommends approval of changes to the Meal Count Procedures Policy.
K. Establish a Middle School Girls Soccer Team
The Superintendent recommends establishing a middle school girls soccer team.
L. Approval to Attend Ropes Program in Slidell
The Superintendent recommends allowing the alternative students to attend the Ropes Program in Slidell four times a year.
M. Authorization to Set up Derek Johnson Memorial Fund for Drug Education
The Superintendent recommends establishing the Derek Johnson Memorial Fund for Drug Education
N. Presentation of Policies
The Superintendent will present the following policies
1. Allow Molli Credits (the superintendent recommends this policy sit on the table 30 days)
2. Revisions to Policy JCBJ (Alcohol Use/Drug Abuse by Students/Substance Abuse Testing (the superintendent recommends adoption now)
3. Amendment to Policy GAX - Employee Requirements Drug and Alcohol Testing (the superintendent recommends this policy sit on the table 30 days)
O. Approval of Drug Testing Providers
The Superintendent recommends CME Occupational Health Services of Gulfport and Psychemedics Corporation of Marietta, GA as the drug testing providers for the district.
P. Personnel
1. Resignations
The Superintendent recommends the board accept the following resignation:
· Cindy Peters, sign language interpreter, effective September 3, 2003. She is relocating to Georgia
· Roni Sprinkle, Director of Operations, is retiring effective October 31, 2003
2. Employment Recommendations
The Superintendent recommends employing the following individuals for the 2003-04 school year to be paid according to the approved salary schedules for their positions:
Non-Certified Personnel
· Kylie Gibbs as an Educational interpreter at Quarles Elementary beginning September 22, 2003, replacing Cindy Peters.
· Clyde Sipler as full time bus driver, effective September 22, 2003
· Kerry Collie as a substitute bus driver, effective October 2, 2003
· Tonya Lebo as food service assistant/cashier, Level I at Harper McCaughan, effective October 9, 2003.
· Ulise Collins as a substitute bus driver, effective October 2, 2003
Certified Personnel
· Laura Johnson as kindergarten teacher at Reeves Elementary, effective September 22, 2003.
3. Federal Programs Funding
The Superintendent recommends approval to pay salaries of the following personnel from multi funding sources:
· Carol Easton 80% from federal funds and 20% from districts funds
· Dr. Jim Hamilton 60% from federal funds and 40 % from district funds
4. Approve payment to teachers for after hours and Saturday detention
The Superintendent recommends approval to pay teachers for after hours and Saturday detention.
5. Personnel Matter
The Superintendent recommends the board go into executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
