A.   Approval of Minutes

B.   Adoption of Agenda

    

C.   Recognitions

The following people will be recognized for their accomplishments:

 

·        Middle School Mathcounts Team

·        Middle School Science Fair Winners

·        High School Mock Trial Team

·        Student Council Winners

 

D.   Business

     Consent Agenda

The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items:

 

a. Financial Report

b. Approval to Pay Substitutes

     c. Accept Donations

·        Grand Casino of Gulfport has donated 10 television sets which will be used to fill a need for TV units in those areas where Channel One units are not available.

     d. Disposal of Surplus Equipment

    

E.  Request to Add Courses to Long Beach High School Curriculum

    The Superintendent recommends the following courses be added to the high school curriculum: 1) Zoology and Marketing; 2) Environmental Science to the Alternative School (High School Curriculum)

   

F.  Revision to Policy JBC (Residence Verification-Transfers)

    The Superintendent recommends revising policy JBC by adding the following sentences to the end of the policy: Proof of Residency may be collected during the last quarter of a school year for attendance during the following year.  Requests for updated proof of residency may be made as deemed necessary.

 

G.  Ratify Poll Votes of School Board

    The Superintendent recommends ratifying the following poll votes of the school board

·        polled 3/28/05 to allow teachers Bethany Spayde and John Massengale and their classes to attend Physics Fest at Six Flags in New Orleans on April 29, 2005

·        polled 3/28/05 to allow Rebecca Cullifer, Jeena Montanna and four student council members to attend the National Association of Student Councils Convention in Collinsville, IL on June 25-29, 2005.

 

H.   Requests to Offline Checks  

     The Superintendent recommends approval to off-line the following checks:

 

·        to Gary Shockley of Bama Dog Sports $400 to pay for a program Harper McCaughan is having for the entire school because of the students’ efforts in preparation for the upcoming state test;

·        to Long Beach Police Department $11,900 for the Resource Officer at the middle school for the months of November-March ($2380 per month)

·        to Gary Shockley of Bama Dog Sports $400 from Reeves Activity Account.  The activity is for a pre MCT test pep rally.

·        to Audubon Nature Institute $102 for chaperones for 5th grade field trip on May 9th

 

I.   Request to Have Extended School Year at Long Beach Middle School

     The Superintendent recommends approval to hold Extended School Year at Long Beach Middle School at the end of the 2004-05 school year, in accordance with  criteria submitted by the principal.

 

J.   Recommendation for 8th Grade Language Arts Program

     The Superintendent recommends combining 8th grade English and Reading into a Language Arts Program.

 

K.   Request to Set Up Athletic Scholarship

     The Superintendent recommends we set up the Brian Cuevas Memorial “Heart of a Champion” Athletic Scholarship as proposed by his mother, Donna Cuevas.

 

L.  Personnel

    1. Resignations

       The Superintendent recommends the board accept the following resignations:

·        Alexia Bultman, Science teacher at Long Beach High School, effective May 20, 2005.  (She is moving to Georgia.)

·        Lil Jobe, Special Populations Coordinator, effective June 30, 2005. (She is resigning due to sickness in her family.)

·        Denise Beasley, teacher assistant/bus driver, effective May 19, 2005. (She is moving out of state.)

 

    2. Employment Recommendations

       The Superintendent recommends employing the following individuals

·        the summer employment of Kenneth Perrone and Ryan Bourgeois in the technology department, beginning May 16, 2005 and ending August 19, 2005 at $8.00 per hour.

·        Gloria Moore as full time custodian at Long Beach Middle School, effective April 21, 2005, replacing a custodian who was released in December.

 

 

 

 

M.   Requests to Remain At Long Beach High School

     The Superintendent received a request from a parent requesting that her child be allowed to remain at Long Beach High School.

O.   Request for Student Hearings

     The Superintendent recommends the board go into executive session for student hearings.

 

P.   Executive Session

     The Superintendent will recommend the board go into executive session to discuss a personnel issue.
