D. Business
1. Consent Agenda
The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items
a. Approval of the claims docket
b. Payment of substitutes
c. Financial Report
d. Disposal of surplus equipment and old library books purchased with federal funds
e. Accept donations
1. $200.00 from Mississippi Power Foundation for LB Chamber of Commerce Joe Holloway Foundation
2. $1,000.00 from Walmart on behalf of Long Beach High School Teacher Garnie Dubuisson, Teacher of the Year, to be used for classroom supplies
3. new Gateway computer donated to Long Beach High School from Walmart
f. Acceptance of grants
1. Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Inc. in the amount of $452.00 for Reeves Elementary teacher Jan Cameron’s Magic Tree House Project
g. Trip approval
1. Coach Harden is requesting permission to take the football team to Mobile, AL to watch the Mississippi-Alabama all star football game staring Xavier Mitchell on June 5, 2004
E. Budget Amendments
The Superintendent recommends approval of budget amendments to the FY’04 budget.
F. Student Release Request
The Superintendent recommends releasing Le’Trace Ledet from the Long Beach School District for the 2004-05 school year to attend Gulfport Schools where his mother is employed.
G. EdSolutions Proposal for After School Programs
The Superintendent recommends approving the agreement with EdSolutions, Inc. for their after school programs at Harper Cafeteria, Reeves and Quarles from August, 2004 through May, 2005.
H. Proposal from Coastal Therapy Services, Inc. to Provide Occupational Therapy
The Superintendent recommends approval of an agreement with Coastal Therapy Services, Inc. to provide Occupational Therapy to students in our district for the 2004-04 school year.
I. Policy Revision
The Superintendent recommends revising the “Application for Use of Certain School Facilities” form (page E-19 in our policy book) to include signature lines for principal and superintendent approval.
J. Proposed Band Handbook for 2004-05 Year
The Superintendent recommends approval of the band handbook for the 2004-05 school year
K. Amend School Calendar for the 2004-05 School Year
The Superintendent recommends amending the school calendar for the 2004-05 school year to change the date that report cards are issued from March 19 (Saturday) to March 15 (Tuesday) and to change graduation from May 12 to May 13.
L. Request to Dispose of Old Records
The Superintendent requests permission to dispose of old records in LBSD in accordance with state law.
M. Request to Obligate Three-Mill Money and District Funds for Capital Improvements
The Superintendent recommends obligating three-mill money and district funds for capital improvements.
N. Personnel
1. Resignations
The Superintendent recommends the board accept the following resignation:
- Brenda Brewer, Food Service Assistant at Quarles, effective 4/29/04
2. Retiree
The Superintendent recommends the board accept the following resignation due to retirement
- Sally Allen, Food Service Manager at the Middle School, retiring after 42 1/2 years
3. Employment Recommendations
The Superintendent recommends employment of the following personnel for the remainder of the 2003-04 school year:
Non-Certified
· Connie Henderson as food service assistant substitute at $5.75 per hour, effective May 1, 2004
· Rosa Mitchell as food service assistant substitute at $5.75 per hour, effective April 19, 2004
The Superintendent recommends employment of non- certified staff for the 2004-05 school year at Long Beach High School, Long Beach Middle School, Quarles Elementary School, Harper McCaughan Elementary School, Reeves Elementary School, Department of Student Services, Alternative School, Central Office, Transportation, Maintenance/Custodian, Food Service Department, Bus Drivers, and Technology Department.
Certified Personnel
The Superintendent recommends April Gray Johnson as a teacher at Long Beach High School for the 2004-05 school year.
4. Summer Employment
The Superintendent recommends approving Kenneth Perrone at $7.00 per hour and and Ryan Bourgeois at $6.00 per hour for summer employment in the technology department beginning May 24, 2004 and ending August 4, 2004.
