The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items:

4.   Accept Donations

     a.   40 computers donated by NASA

     b.   3 computers donated by Dunny Green

     c.   4-wheeler and trailer donated by Band Boosters

5.   Disposal of surplus equipment and old textbooks

6.   Field Trips

     a.   the high school cheerleaders are requesting permission to travel to           Panama City Beach for a cheerleading camp on July 21-24, 2005

     7.   Single Source Purchase to Premier for 2005-06 year middle school agendas

 

E.   Budget Amendments

     The Superintendent recommends approval of budget amendments to the FY'05 budget.

 

F.   Request to Exempt Certain Items from Purchase Order Requirements

     The Superintendent recommends that certain items be exempt from purchase order

     requirements.

 

G.   Establish Petty Cash Amounts at Schools for 2005-06 School Year

     The Superintendent recommends establishing petty cash amounts at each school for the

     2005-06 school year.

 

H.   Request to Use School Facilities

     The Superintendent recommends approval for Drum Corps to use the football stadium,

     bathroom facilities and the gym on July 19, 2005 for overnight stay while in route

     to competition.

 

I.   Request to Off-Line Certain Checks for the 2005-06   School Year

     The Superintendent recommends approval to off-line certain checks for the 2005-06

     school year.

 

J.   Proposed Meal Price Increase

     The Superintendent recommends approval of meal price increases for the 2005-06 school

     year for paid student breakfast and lunch.

 

K.   Approval of Reading Sufficiency Plan

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the Reading Sufficiency Plan for submission

     to the state department of education.

 

L.   Ratify Poll Vote of School Board

     The Superintendent recommends ratifying the following poll vote of the school board

     taken on May 26, 2005:

 

     1.   to grant permission for our athletic teams to compete in summer camps as

          follows:

 

·        June 3-5 - varsity girls basketball in a team camp at Fort Walton Beach, FL

·        June 10-11 - varsity girls basketball to a team camp at USM.  They will use the mini bus.

·        June 18 - football will be taking 12 athletes to Tulane for a team 7-on-7 camp.  Coaches will drive a bus with the team.

·        June 17-19 - varsity boys basketball team will be taking 12 athletes to University of Alabama for team camp.  A bus will deliver the team and return on Sunday to pick them up.

·        June 24-26 - varsity boys basketball will be taking 22 athletes to Springhill College for a team camp.  Coach Patton will drive the bus for the team.

·        June 28-30 - Coach D'Angelo will be taking four seniors from the varsity basketball team to MSU for an Elite camp.

 

Voting for: Holder, Pierce, Pruitt, Stubbs; Sharp voted for approval of trips occurring before the next board meeting, i.e. trips of June 3-5 and June 10-11.

 

M.   Request to Dispose of Old Records

     The Superintendent recommends permission to dispose of old records in the district in

     accordance with state law.

 

N.   Transfers and Withdrawals of Students Agreement Form with Pass Christian School

     District

The Superintendent recommends approval of Agreement for Payment or Non-payment of Maintenance Funds & Tuition for Transfer Students submitted by Pass Christian School District.

 

O.   Student Release Requests

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the following student releases for the

     2005-06 school year

 

·        Lindsey Broadway, grade 12 and Hannah Broadway, grade 10 be released from Long Beach High School to attend Pass Christian High School where their mother is employed.

·        Aaron Bryce Smith be released from Long Beach School District to attend Pass Christian School District where his mother is employed.

·        William and Miriam Kelly be released from Pass Christian School District and

  accepted into Long Beach School District where their father is an employee.

·        Katie Cook be released from Gulfport School District and accepted into Long Beach School District where her mother is an employee.

·        Lisa Adam be released from Long Beach School District to attend school in Bay St. Louis-Waveland School District where her mother is employed.

·        Brittany Hogue be released from Harrison County School District and accepted into Long Beach School District where her mother is an employee.

 

P.   Adoption of LBHS Band Handbook for 2005-06

     The Superintendent recommends adoption of the high school band handbook which has sat

     on the table for 30 days.

 

Q.   Presentation of Policies/Handbooks to Sit on the Table for 30 Days before Adoption

     The Superintendent recommends the following policies/handbooks sit on the table 30

     days before adoption:

     1.   Proposed Revision to Policy JCBJ (Drug Testing)

     2.   2005-06 High School Student/Parent Handbook

     3.   2005-06 Middle School Student/Parent Handbook

     4.   2005-06 Elementary Schools Student/Parent Handbook

     5.   2005-06 Alternative School Student/Parent Handbook

 

R.   Approval of Federal Programs Application

The Superintendent recommends approval of the Federal Programs Application for

2005-06.

 

S.   School Zone Transfers

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the following zone transfers for the

     2005-06 school year:

T.   Interlocal Agreement Between LBSD and City of Long Beach for Shared Facilities,

     Equipment and Services

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the Interlocal Agreement between the

     school district and city.

 

U.   Request by LB Recreation Department to Use School Bus

The Superintendent recommends approval for the LB Recreation Department to use a school bus to transport children enrolled

in the city's summer recreation program.

 

V.   Adoption of Salary Scales for 2005-06 Year

     The Superintendent recommends adoption of salary scales for the 2005-06 school year.

 

W.   Personnel

     1.   Resignations/Terminations

          The Superintendent recommends acceptance of the following

          resignations/terminations:

 

·        Elizabeth Foley, English teacher at Long Beach High School, is resigning at the end of her 2004-05 contract

·        Karen Poole, Secretary for Special Education, is resigning effective

   June 30, 2005

·        Quincy Fletcher, housekeeper at Long Beach High School, is being terminated for not reporting to work since May 5, 2005.

·        Nancie Simmons, music teacher at Harper McCaughan, is resigning effective

   May 19, 2005

 

2.   Non-certified Employment Recommendations for 2005-06 Year

     The Superintendent recommends employment of non-certified staff for the 2005-06

     school year at Long Beach High School, Long Beach Middle School, Quarles       

     Elementary School, Harper McCaughan Elementary School, Reeves Elementary School,

Department of Student Services, Alternative School, Central Office,

Transportation, Maintenance/Custodial, Food Service Department (new and

returning staff), and Technology Department.

 

3.   Certified Staff Recommendations

     The Superintendent recommends employment of the following certified staff for

     the 2005-06 school year:

   ·        Cindy Hathcock as teacher at Reeves Elementary

·        Anna Coggin as Social Studies teacher at Long Beach High School, replacing C. Ladner

·        Francisco Hardy as physical education teacher at Long Beach High School

·        Joel Dunlap as teacher at Long Beach High School, replacing Dianne Holbert

·        Dee Dee Keel as teacher at Quarles Elementary, pending final funding of Tile I for the 2005-06 school year

·        Jeenna Montana as cross country coach, with her supplement becoming effective July, 2005

·        Jennifer Barren as Music teacher at Harper McCaughan, replacing Nancie Simmons

·        Allison Rhodes as teacher at Quarles Elementary School

·        Donna Joplin as a teacher at Long Beach High School

     The Superintendent recommends the board go into executive session for a student

     hearing and student matters.
