1.                   Consent Agenda

The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items

a. Approval of the claims docket

b. Payment of substitutes

c. Financial Report

     d. Disposal of surplus equipment, old textbooks and Title equipment

     e. Request to use school facilities – Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, approval contingent upon receipt of insurance

     f. Single source purchase - Camerawatch

g. Trip approvals

·        High School Boys Basketball Team to Mobile, AL on June 24, 25, 26 to compete in a team camp at Springhill college

·        High School Girls Basketball Team to Ole Miss on June 11th and 12th for elite camp

(ratify action of board polled on June 9, 2004)

·        High School Girls Basketball Team to MS State Individual Camp on June 17th and 18th

     h.  Acceptance of grants

·        Mississippi Power Company grant in the amount of $735.42 (check enclosed now for 90% or $661.88)for Jan Cameron of Reeves to complete her Magic Tree House Treasures

·        Mississippi Power Company grant in the amount of $1,089.00 for Melanie Foster of Reeves for “The Book Nook”

·        State Farm Insurance grant in the amount of $500.00 for Vivian Ward (LBHS) for Forensics

·        Safe and Orderly Schools Discretionary Grant in the amount of $2,317 to be used to improve behavior modification services for middle and high school students referred to the Alternative School

i.   Accept donation of equipment from Sea Wolves

 

E.  Authorize Superintendent to Solicit RFP’s up to $150,000

    The Superintendent asks for approval to solicit RFP’s up to $150,000 (to be approved at July 12th board meeting) of our Three Mill Debt Limitation

 

F.  Request to Exempt Certain Items from Purchase Order Requirements

    The Superintendents recommends that certain items be exempt from purchase order requirements.

 

G.  Establish Petty Cash Amounts at Schools for 2004-05 Year

    The Superintendent recommends establishing petty cash amounts at each school for the 2004-05 year.

 

H.  Request to Off-line Certain Checks for the 2004-05 School Year

    The Superintendent recommends approval to off-line certain checks for the 2004-05 school year

 

I.  Funding Agreement with West Harrison County Center for 2004-05 year

    The Superintendent recommends approving the funding agreement with the West Harrison Community College for the 2004-05 year.

 

J.  Presentation of Policies to Sit on Table 30 Days

    2.  Internet Use and Computer Policy (Revised)

 

K.   Approval of Fees for 2004-05 MSBA Dues

     The Superintendent recommends we continue payment of school board dues to Mississippi School Boards Association for the 2004-05 year.

 

L.  Job Description for Assistant Director of Special Education

    The Superintendent recommends the board adopt the job description and position for assistant director of special education.

 

M.  Student Releases to Attend Schools in Other Districts

The Superintendent recommends releasing/accepting the following students to attend schools in districts other than their home district for the 2004-05 school year:

·        Cotton and Emily Ezell to be released from Long Beach Schools to attend school in the Harrison County School District where their mother is an employee

·        Lindsey and Hannah Broadway from Long Beach School District to attend school in Pass Christian Schools where their mother is an employee

·        Sean R. Irby to be released from Long Beach School District to attend school in the Biloxi School District where he can take Latin II

·        Aimee Allen and Andrew Allen from Pass Christian School District to Long Beach School District (parent Debbie Allen is employee of LBS)

·        William and Miriam Kelly from Pass Christian School District to Long Beach School District (parent Allen Kelly is employee of LBS)

 

N.   Student Transfer Requests for 2004-05 School Year

The Superintendent recommends approving the following transfers for the 2004-05 school year:

 

·        Lendon Granberry from Quarles School to Reeves School for the 2004-05 school year

 

O.  Personnel

 

1.    Resignations

      The Superintendent recommends the board accept the following resignations:

 

      Non-Certified Staff

-       Dan Huggins, bus driver, resigned effective May 31, 2004

-       Gary L. Henzen, bus driver, resigned effective May 21, 2004

-       Stephanie Bates, teacher assistant at Harper McCaughan, resigned effective May 21, 2004

 

Certified Staff

      - Peggy Johnston, 2nd grade teacher at Quarles, is retiring at the close of the 2003-04 school year.

      - Nancy Head Ruff, High School Math teacher, is retiring at the close of the 2003-04 school year and requests that 78 leave days be sent to the Retirement System for ½ year of credit

      - Karen Gifford, guidance counselor at Long Beach High School, is resigning effective July 1, 2004, to accept a position in Ocean Springs

      - Beth Gagliano, teacher at Long Beach Middle School, has accepted a position with Gulfport Schools

 

2.   Employment Recommendations  

The Superintendent recommends employment of the following personnel for the 2004-05 school year:

 

Non-Certified Staff

·        Elizabeth “Ann” Hagin as Food Service Assistant, Level 0 @ $6.17 per hour, effective July 29, 2004

 

Certified Staff

·        John Massengale as Science teacher at Long Beach High School, replacing Kathy Roberts

·        Alexia Bultman as Science teacher at Long Beach High School, replacing Josh Perkins

·        Glenn Williams as Tech Discovery teacher at Long Beach High School, replacing Cynthia Hester

·        Gloria Bratton as Math teacher at Long Beach High School, replacing Grace Gingles

·        Connie Cole as part-time English teacher at Long Beach High School, replacing Andre Dubuisson

·        Shirley Hillman as guidance counselor at Long Beach High School, replacing Karen Gifford

·        Candis Spruill as Math teacher at Long Beach High School, replacing Nancy Head Ruff

·        Angela Hogue as teacher at Harper McCaughan replacing Cindy Rogers

·        Patty Theurer as p.e. teacher at Harper McCaughan, replacing Benji Foreman who transferred to Middle School

·        Kathleen Hodgins as Music teacher at Long Beach Middle School, replacing Melissa Kinsey

·        Allan Mathis as Middle School History teacher, replacing Jeremy Grubbs

·        Rod Thompson as Middle School English Teacher

·        Trena Attipoe as Middle School Math teacher, contingent upon receipt of certificate, replacing Beth Gagliano

·        Laquita Moore as Home/Hospital for Long Beach Middle School, replacing Andrea Fairley

·        Jessica Rawlins as teacher at Quarles Elementary, upon receipt of certification.

She replaces Peggy Johnson.

 

 3.  Transfer of Certified Personnel 

     The Superintendent recommends approving the following transfers

·        Josh Perkins from the High School to Quarles Elementary to fill the physical education vacancy created by the resignation of Bob Clark

·        Benji Foreman from p.e. teacher at Harper McCaughan to p. e. teacher at Middle School, replacing Coach Shoemake

    

4.  Designation of Class Size Reduction Teachers

     The superintendent recommends the following teachers be designated as class size reduction teachers to be paid with federal funds: Beverly Hamil at Harper McCaughan, Debra Jackson at Reeves Elementary, Gladys McCardle at Harper McCaughan.

 

5.   Accept Contribution from St.Thomas School for Assistant’s Salary

     The Superintendent recommends accepting $855.42 toward the salary of teacher assistant Tara Meleones who is assigned to St. Thomas School for the 2004-05 year.

 

6.   Salary Designation/Change

·        The superintendent recommends that 50% of Laura Gremillion’s salary for the 2004-05 school year will be paid with Part B Special Education Funds to allow her to input student data information into MSIS for Special Education.

·        The superintendent recommends that Bonnie Maggard be moved on the District Salary Schedule from Schedule D, Level 6 to Schedule D, Level 12 for 240 days for the 2004-05 school year.

 

7.   Designation of Supplements

     The superintendent designates people to receive supplements for the 2004-05 school year.
