The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items

          - Tropical Wave Show Choir to Homewood High School, AL for South Central Classic Show Choir competition on February 19, 20, 2005 (Saturday and Sunday)

          - Tropical Wave Show Choir to Belmont University in Nashville, TN for Music City Show Shoppe Show Choir Competition on February 25, 26, 27, 2005 (Friday- Sunday)

          - LBHS Indoor Percussion to Nashville, TN for Mid South WGI Percussion Regional on February 25-27, 2005 (Friday-Sunday)

          - LBHS Indoor Percussion to Dayton, OH for WGI Percussion finals on April 12-17, 2005 (Tuesday-Sunday)

          - LBHS Indoor Percussion to Pensacola High School for South WGI Regional on March 18-19, 2005 (Friday-Saturday)   

          - LBHS Marching Band to Tate High School in Pensacola, FL for marching band contest on November 6, 2004 (Saturday)

 

D.  Budget Amendments

    The Superintendent recommends approval of budget amendments to the FY’04 budget.

 

E.  Student Release Requests

    The Superintendent recommends releasing the following students to attend schools in districts other than their home district for the 2004-05 school year:

·        Lisa Adam be released from Long Beach Schools to attend Bay St. Louis/Waveland School District where her mother is an employee

·        Kurt Austin Duffy be released from Long Beach Schools to attend Harrison County School District where his mother is an employee

·        John Tyler Bass be released from Long Beach Schools to attend Hancock County School District where is mother is an employee

·        Katie Cook from Gulfport School District to Long Beach Middle School (Katie’s mother is Kathy Cook employee at LBHS)

·        Laura Frost and Dara Frost be released from Long Beach Schools to attend Gulfport Schools where their mother is an employee

·        Jacob Bozlee and Shelby Bozlee be released from Long Beach School District to attend school in Hancock County School District where their mother is an employee

 and to deny the request for release of

·        John Galatas from the Long Beach School District to attend school in Pass Christian School District

 

F.   Adoption of Budget Resolution and Budget for 2004-05 Year

     The Superintendent recommends adoption of the budget resolution and budget for the 2004-05 school year.

 

G.  Award RFP up to $150,000 on our Three Mill Debt Limitation

    The Superintendent recommends that we award a $135,000 note from the three mill money.

 

H.  Permission to Spend Three Mill Money

    The Superintendents recommends we use approximately $40,000 of the available $135,000 to purchase maintenance/custodial equipment from Aramark and approximately $60,000 for maintenance vehicles.

 

I.  Request to Transfer $7,000 from District Maintenance to Our Unemployment Compensation Fund

    The Superintendent recommends transferring $7,000 from District Maintenance to Unemployment Compensation Fund.

   

J.  Presentation of Policies to Sit on Table 30 Days

    1. Long Beach High School Handbook for Student Athletes

    2. Long Beach Schools Handbook for Coaches

3. Leaves and Absences Policy (Descriptor Code GARI)

 

K.  Adoption of Policies

    The Superintendent recommends the Board adopt the following policies which have been on the table for 30 days

    Student Handbooks for the 2004-05 Year for:

·        Long Beach High School (Contains changes in spelling, grammar and spacing. No changes to wording except first page.) 

·         Long Beach Middle School

·         Elementary Schools

·         Alternative School

 

    Internet Use and Computer Policy

 

L.  Continuation of Contract with Memorial Hospital for Nurses

    The Superintendent recommends that Long Beach School District continue our contract with Memorial Hospital to provide for three nurses for the district at a cost of $75,000, with the $75,000 coming from Fund Equity.

 

M.  Personnel

 

    1. Resignations

       The Superintendent recommends the board accept the following resignations

·        Ann Kortman, English teacher at Long Beach Middle School, is moving to Pascagoula/Moss Point area, resignation effective June 17, 2004

·        Pamela Keller, English teacher at Long Beach High School is moving to Florida, resignation effective June 30, 2004.

 

2.  Employment Recommendations

    The Superintendent recommends employment of the following personnel for the 2004-05 school year:

 

        Non-Certified Personnel

 

·        Roy Tootle, David Harrison and James Leunberger as substitute bus drivers

·        Dan Huggin and James Forrester as full time bus drivers

 

       Certified Personnel  

·        Jennifer Fava as English teacher at Long Beach Middle School replacing Ann Kortman

·        Karen McManus as Technology Director on half contract basis with salary based on the administrative salary scale

·        Patty Theurer as athletic trainer to serve students in sports and extracurricular activities with supplement based on district coaching supplement scale

·        Susan Molesworth as Assistant Director of Special Education

·        Marcie Bush as high school special education teacher, replacing Susan Molesworth

 

    3.  Maintenance and Custodial Recommendation

        The Superintendent recommends hiring employees for our custodial and maintenance positions.

 

    4.  Recommendation for Increased Days

        The Superintendent recommends increasing Lorene Adlrich’s contract by ten days to compensate her for added time on additional tasks outside the scope of her job requirements at the Middle School.
