    Dr. Jim Hamilton will provide a presentation on new test score analysis and tracking.

   

D.  Business

1.                   Consent Agenda

The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items:

a.              Approval of the claims docket  

b.   Financial Report 

     c.   Trip Approvals

          - Tropical Wave Show Choir to Orlando, FL on March 17-20, 2005 for National Showchoir competition

 

E.  Budget Amendments

    The Superintendent recommends approval of budget amendments to the FY’05 budget.

 

F.  Adoption of Amended Budget

    The Superintendent recommends adopting the amended budget for FY’04.

 

G. Student Release Requests

    The Superintendent recommends approval of the following student releases for the 2004-05 school year:

·        Henry Haynes, Jr. and Antinia Seymour be released from Long Beach Schools to attend Central Elementary School.  Their father is an employee of Gulfport School District.

·        Zachary Hansen be accepted into Long Beach Schools from Harrison County School District.  Mother Tracy Hansen is employee of Long Beach Schools.

·        Emalie and Mark Cormier be accepted into Long Beach School District from Hancock County School District.  Mother Darlene Cormier is employee of Long Beach Schools.

·        Robert Bryce Hartzog be accepted into Long Beach School District from Gulfport School District.  Mother Savannah Hatch is employee of Long Beach Schools.

·        Corey Hamil be accepted into Long Beach School District from Pass Christian School District. Mother Beverly Hamil is employee of Long Beach School District.

·        Lanie, Lauren, Lindsey, Meghan and Mikkel Newell be accepted into Long Beach School District from Pass Christian Schools. Mother Leigh Ann Newell is employee of Long Beach Schools.

·        Miranda Comfort and C. J. Gaston be accepted into Long Beach Schools from Pass Christian School District.  Mother Adrianne Powers is employee of Long Beach Schools.

·        Taylor Brown and Teddy Brown be accepted into Long Beach Schools from Harrison County School District.

   Mother Denise Brown is employee of Long Beach Schools.

·        Simone Hinton be accepted into Long Beach Schools from Gulfport School District.  Mother Yolanda Hinton is employee of Long Beach Schools.

·        Nathaniel Barkham, Jr. be accepted into Long Beach School from Harrison County School District.  Mother Teresa Barkham is employee of Long Beach Schools.

·        Mark Clayton Maxwell, II be accepted into Long Beach Schools from Harrison County School District.

   Mother Judy Maxwell is employee of Long Beach Schools         

·        Wendell and Angela Yarborough be accepted into Long Beach Schools from Harrison County School District.

   Mother Cheryl Yarborough is employee of Long Beach                                                      Schools.

·        Frahrissa Monroe be accepted into Long Beach Schools from Harrison County School District.  Mother Alice Monroe is employee of Long Beach Schools.

 

H.   School Zone Transfers

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the following school zone transfers for the 2004-05 year:

·        Brooke Powell from Reeves School Zone to Quarles School Zone

 

I.  Award Bids on Gasoline, Diesel and Propane

    The Superintendent recommends accepting the firm bid         received from Blossman Gas for propane and the alternate bid received from A & M Petroleum for gasoline and diesel.

 

J. Ratify Action on Telephone Poll of Board to Off-line Checks

    The Superintendent recommends ratifying a telephone poll of board members on 7/16/04 to off-line checks to Jody Reinike and Leon Crawford.

 

K.  Change to Leaves and Absences Policy (GARIJ)

    The Superintendent recommends changing the leave policy to be in compliance with state law to exclude the word “grandchildren” as part of the immediate family.

 

L.  Ad Valorem for Shortfall Note

    The Superintendent recommends transferring funds to cover FY’04 shortfall debt.

 

M.  Amend Expenditure of Three Mill Money

    The Superintendent recommends inclusion of expenditures for the softball field, if needed, out of three mill money.

 

N.  Request to Off-Line Checks for Petty Cash for School Lunchrooms

    The Superintendent recommends approval to off-line five checks (one for each school cafeteria) for petty cash, retroactive to August 3, 2004.

 

O.  Meal Price Change

    The Superintendent recommends increasing adult meals for this year as follows: Adult Breakfast $1.40; Adult Lunch $2.40; Guest Lunch $2.65.

 

P.  Adoption of 2004-05 Year Employee Handbook

    The Superintendent recommends adopting the 2004-05 year employee handbook.

 

Q.  Permission to Off-line Checks for Small Contractors   The Superintendent requests permission to off-line checks for small contractors performing work related to the new softball field.

 

R.  Request to Hire Nurses

    The Superintendent recommends hiring three full time nurses and one part-time nurse.

 

S.  Workers Compensation Update

    The Superintendent will provide an update on workers compensation.

 

T.  Curriculum and Instruction-Drug Education Elective Course/Compensatory Reading II Course

    The Superintendent recommends adding Drug Education, (Course #340142), and Compensatory Reading II (Course #320142) at the Alternative School.

   

U.  Personnel

 

1.    Resignations

      The Superintendent recommends the board accept the following resignations:

 

o       Greg Drye, driver education teacher and assistant baseball coach at Long Beach High School, effective July 28, 2004.

o       Belinda Tipton, teacher assistant at Harper McCaughan, effective August 1, 2004.

o       Elizabeth Pepper, food service assistant at Long Beach High School, effective July 15, 2004

o       Tonya Lebo, food service assistant at Harper McCaughan, effective July 23, 2004

o       Jeff Morse, bus driver, effective August 2, 2004.

o       Lewis Patterson, bus driver, effective August 6, 2004.

 

2.  Employment RecommendationsThe Superintendent recommends employment of the following personnel for the 2004-05 school year:

 

Certified Personnel

·        Melanie West as teacher at Long Beach High School, effective August 1, 2004.  She replaces Pam Keller.

·        Kathleen Rogers as 8th grade English teacher for the 2004-05 school year, replacing Rod Thompson.

 

Non-Certified Personnel

 

·        Kenny Perrone as part-time technology employee at $7.00 per hour, not to exceed 19 hours per week, beginning August 5, 2004 for the 2004-05 school session ending May 18, 2005.

·        Warren “Trey” Hertz as returning food service assistant substitute at $5.75 per hour, effective 8/5/04 and to be hired to transport frozen food from the District freezer to the various schools as needed at $5.15 per hour, plus he will receive mileage reimbursement, effective 8/5/04.

·        Alice Weidemann, Eva Duncan, Patricia Smith, Toni Colvin, Lena Barham and Victoria Lee as food service assistant substitutes at $5.75 per hour, effective July 29, 2004

·        David Ward as groundskeeper for the school district on salary schedule HH, Level 4 at $8.79 per hour, effective July 22, 2004

·        Tara L. Meleones as part-time Title I computer assisted instructional assistant (salary schedule B) beginning August 9, 2004, pending the St. Thomas Elementary School Title I allocation.

·        Patricia Wescovich as central office receptionist, salary schedule G, Level 8 beginning August 10, 2004.

·        Leigh Barefield as part time teacher assistant at Long Beach High School, effective August 2, 2004.

 

3.  Recommendations for Coaches and Sponsors to Receive Supplements

    The Superintendent recommends a list of individuals to receive supplements for the 2004-05 school year.

4.  Supplement Approval

    The Superintendent recommends Misty Jensen to receive the approved $2,000 supplement for dealing with bodily functions and fluids of a special education student.
