The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items

a.              Approval of the claims docket

b.              Payment of substitutes

c.              Accept donations

     The Superintendent recommends the board accept donations triggered by Hurricane Katrina to all schools in Long Beach School District.

d.   Dispose of surplus equipment/old textbooks

e.   Donation of old equipment

f.   Single source purchase for Camera Watch

g.   Financial Report

 

D.   Carol Paola - Information Session on Gifted Program 

 

E.   Request to Use School Facilities

     The Superintendent recommends approval for the following groups to use school facilities

·        Cherry Hills Community Church of Highland Ranch, Team Colorado to use school gym and cafeteria on July 10-July 13, 2006 for Fellowship of Christian Athletes sports camp and ending ceremonies for Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach and Pass Christian

·        YMCA is requesting to use the middle school gym on July 17-July 28, 2006 for the last two weeks of their Summer Day Camp.

 

F.   Approval of Transfers and Withdrawals of Students Agreement Form with Pass Christian School District

     for the 2006-07 school year.

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the   Transfers and Withdrawals of Students Agreement Form with Pass Christian School District.

 

G.   Student Releases for 2006-07 School Year

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the   following student releases for the 2006-07 school year.

H.   Ratify Poll Vote of Board Members

     Karen McManus, Technology Coordinator, recommends ratifying the unanimous yes poll votes of board members taken on

 

     May 25, 2006:

·        to adjust the salaries of Kenny Perrone and Andrew Mitchell in the technology department from $8.00 per hour to $9.00 per hour, retroactive to May 9, 2006 and to hire Greg Gardner, Joe Blake, Ashley Harvey, Derek Cameron, Matt Duprel and Kristen Hamilton as temporary laborers from June 1 to July 31, 2006 at $8.00 per hour.

 

     The Superintendent recommends ratifying the unanimous yes poll votes taken on

 

     May 25, 2006:

·        to allow all O-linemen and D-linemen on the LBHS football team to travel to Ole Miss for a football camp on June 7 and June 8.  Players will pay $55 each for the cost of the camp, overnight stay and bus fuel.

 

     June 1, 2006

·          to allow city to use softball field for a tournament on June 2, 3, 4, 2006

·          to allow U.S. Small Business Administration, Office of Disaster Assistance, to use Reeves cafeteria to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina with application process for disaster loans, with our board waiving their policy requiring certificate of liability insurance

 

I.  Approval of Price Change for Fast Forward Software

    The Superintendent recommends approval of a price change from $314,985.00 to $339,895.00 for Fast Forward Software approved by the board on April 6, 2006.  The increase is for renewal cost and support for licenses for three years instead on one year.

 

J.  Approval to Award Bids for Gas, Diesel and Technology Equipment

    The Superintendent recommends approval to award the single bid received for gas and diesel, the single bid received for laptop computers, and the lowest bids received for SmartBoards, Audio/Visual Carts and Epson Projectors.

 

K.  Approval of Petty Cash for Cafeterias

    The Superintendent recommends approval of the following amounts for cafeteria managers for money for their cash drawers for the 2006-07 school year:

    Harper McCaughan    $20

    Reeves              $20

    Middle School       $50 

    Quarles             $20

    High School         $90 (this amount includes the Alternative School)

 

L.  Approval of Petty Cash for Schools

    The Superintendent recommends approval of the following amounts for petty cash for the schools for the 2006-07 school year:

    High School - General Activities   $200

    Middle School - Club Account       $100

    Middle School                      $ 75

    Alternative School                 $ 50

    Harper McCaughan School            $ 50

    Quarles School                     $ 50

    Reeves School                      $ 50

 

M.  Request to Off-Line Checks for 2006-07 School Year

The Superintendent recommends approval to off-line certain checks requested for the 2006-07 school year.

 

N.  Request to Exempt Certain Items from District's Purchase Order Requirements

    The Superintendent recommends that certain items be exempted from the district's purchase order requirements.

 

O.  Request to Dispose of Old Records

    The Superintendent recommends permission to dispose of old records in accordance with §37-15-8.

 

P.  Adoption of Safety Plan

    The Superintendent recommends adoption of the School Food Safety Program for implementation July 1, 2006.

 

Q.  Adoption of Wellness Plan

    The Superintendent recommends adoption of the Wellness Plan for the school district.

 

R.  Adoption of Policy for Displaced Students

    The Superintendent recommends adoption of the policy for Displaced Students which has been on the table for 30 days.

 

S.  Presentation of Student Handbooks

    The Superintendent is presenting the following handbooks for 2006-07 Year to sit on the table 30 days before adoption

 

·        LBSD Handbook for Student Athletes

·        LBHS Student/Parent Handbook

·        LBMS Student/Parent Handbook

·        Elementary School Student/Parent Handbook

·        LBSD Alternative School Student/Parent Handbook

·        LBSD Coaches Handbook

 

 

 

T.   LB Substance Abuse Task Force Grant

The Superintendent recommends allowing the person (part time counselor) hired by the LB Substance Abuse Task Force grant to provide part-time services at the middle school and high school.

 

U.   Request to Add Two Courses at High School Beginning 2006-07 School Year

     The Superintendent recommends adding a Broadcast Journalism class and a Creative Writing Class at Long Beach High School.

 

V.   Approval of Federal Programs Project for 2006-07

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the Federal programs Project for the 2006-07 school year.

 

W.   Salary Scales

     The Superintendent recommends adoption of the following salary scales/supplements

 

·        Administrative Salary Schedule

·        Substitute Teachers/Detention

·        Supplement Schedule

·        Supplement Schedule for Coaching

·        Placement of Non-Certified Staff on Salary Scale    

 

X.   Personnel

     1.   Resignations

    The Superintendent recommends accepting the following resignations:

 

·        Cheryl Barlow, teacher at Harper McCaughan, is resigning effective May 30, 2006

·        Jenny Webber, teacher at Reeves Elementary is resigning effective May 30, 2006

·        Jan Serpente, guidance counselor at Reeves Elementary, is resigning effective May 30, 2006

·        Linda Alfonso, teacher at Long Beach High School is resigning at the end of the 2005-2006 school term.

 

     2.   Election of Personnel

          The Superintendent recommends employment of the following personnel:

   

    Certified Staff

·        Ashleigh McCaffrey as Title I tutorial teacher at Quarles Elementary for the 2006-07 school year, pending completion of certification this summer.  She replaces Kirk Beeson.

·        Jerilyn B. Hurt as Director of Child Nutrition, effective July 1, 2006, with placement on the administrative salary schedule, food service director and technology director schedule for 220 days.

·        Bethany Spayde as full-time director of instructional services, with placement on the administrative salary schedule for assistant principals and program directors for 240 days with  an .08 responsibility factor

·        Rebecca Spruill Overman as elementary teacher at Reeves Elementary for the 2006-07 school year

·        coaching staff for 2006-07 year as recommended by Athletic Coordinator Terry D'Angelo    

 

Non-Certified Staff

·        Betty Valdez as food service assistant cashier step 0 @ $7.90 per hour, effective July 28, 2006.

·        re-hire Casey Anderson as Title Assistant at Harper McCaughan for 2006-07 school year.

·        Karen Duggan as secretary replacing Sally Miller in the office at Quarles Elementary, effective July 26, 2006

·        re-hire Denise Walters as teacher assistant at Quarles, effective August 1, 2006.

·        Lori Herring as front desk receptionist at Long Beach Middle School effective at the beginning of the FY'07 school year on salary schedule C, level 2, step 1, 200 days
