The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items:

          The Superintendent recommends the board accept donations triggered by hurricane Katrina to all schools in Long Beach School District.

·        Long Beach Indoor Percussion to  E. D. White High School in Thibodeaux, LA on February 17, 2007 for Indoor Contest

E.   Proposed Policy on Unsafe School Choice Option

     The Superintendent will present a proposed policy on Unsafe School Choice Option for immediate adoption.

 

F.   Ratify Poll Votes of School Board

     The Superintendent recommends ratifying the unanimous yes telephone poll votes of the school board taken January 25, 2007 to allow

 

·        Long Beach Indoor Percussion to attend Indoor Competition at Chochaw Hatchee High School in Ft. Walton Beach, FL on February 3, 2007

·        Marine Science Quiz Bowl Team to travel to Ocean Springs, MS and spend the night (February 9-10, 2007) for competition

·        Single source purchases to Educational Material Specialists, Inc. for

o       Purchase order #65063 for 8 “My Reading Coach” in the amount of $2,400

o       Purchase order #65064 for 15 head sprouts in the amount of $2,250

 

G.   Award Bids for Surplus Buses

The Superintendent recommends accepting the highest bids for the sale of three surplus buses all from Salvage Nine.

 

H.   Request to Pay Damages for Vehicle Repairs

The Superintendent recommends payment of:

·        $150.00 to settle a potential litigation claim for damage to an employee’s vehicle by a volunteer crew doing painting work at Harper McCaughan.

·        $1,154.29 to settle a potential litigation claim for damage to an employee’s vehicle damaged by our bus

 

I.   Personnel

 

     1.   Resignations

The Superintendent recommends acceptance of the following resignations:

 

·        Debbie Riser, tutor of Title children at Quarles School, is resigned effective January 31, 2007, due to a job transfer for her husband

·        Kenny Vucinovich, bus driver, is resigned effective January 31, 2007

 

The following employees will be leaving due to retirement:

 

·        Steven Brumfield, bus driver, is retiring effective March 1, 2007

·        Susan G. Ladner, 6th grade Social Studies teacher at Long Beach Middle School, is retiring at the end of the 2006-07 school year

    

2.   Employment Recommendations

The Superintendent recommends employment of the following individuals for the remainder of the 2006-07 school year:

 

·        Michelle Fineis as Guidance Counselor at Harper McCaughan, effective February 21, 2007, replacing Laura Gray

·        Transfer Karen Lietenberger from 1st grade teacher assistant to Title I teacher at Quarles to replace Debra Riser4 as Title I Tutorial teacher, effective February 1, 2007

·        Connie Ott as Food Service Assistant substitute @ $7.00 per hour, effective January 11, 2007

·        Barbara Bordelon as Food Service Assistant substitute @ $7.00 per hour, effective January 12, 2007

·        Diana Donohue as Food Service Assistant substitute @ $7.00 per hour, effective January 10, 2007

·        John Strickland as full time bus driver, effective February 12, 2007

·        Alice Walker as fulltime housekeeper @ $8.50 per hour, effective January 22, 2007

·        Kenny Triplett as full time grounds keeper at $10.50 per hour, effective January 22, 2007

 

 

3.  Approval of Administrators/Supervisors for 2007-2008 school year

    The Superintendent recommends re-employing the current administrators for the 2007-08 school year and approving Debra Bertucci as designee for the sole purpose of recommending one central office administrator for re-employment.

 

4.  Tutorial Assistance

    The Superintendent recommends starting a tutorial program for students who are in need of additional academic assistance.  The program would be 3 hours a day for 58 days beginning February 5, 2007 and running through May 4, 2007.  She recommends hiring two tutors to be paid from Title funds:

·        Judy Blackstock to be paid at AA level with 25 years of experience

·        Ethel Taquino to be paid at AA level with 29 years of experience.    

 

J.   Discussion of Poll Votes of Board Members

     The Superintendent recommends discussing poll votes of board members.

 

J-1  Request to Use School Facilities

     Bill Dinsmore is requesting to use LBSD central office facilities on February 19, 2007 for a Mississippi Home Corporation public hearing for Pimlico Street property.

 

K.   Request Permission for After Prom Party

     The Superintendent requests approval to allow for an after prom party provided by the Drug Task Force.

 

L.   Points of Information/Discussion Items

     1.   ADA Report

     2.   Reimbursement of expenses for NSBA trip

 

M.   Executive Session

The Superintendent recommends going into executive session for a potential litigation matter/personnel discussion.

 

M-1  Change Orders

The Superintendent recommends the following change orders

 

·        Permission to proceed with adding a 10 X 30 ticket room on the north end of the girls’ weight room, estimated cost $35,000

·        Change order to Sullivan Enterprises for permanent repairs contract to replace and re-key locks at Long Beach High School for security purposes, estimated cost $92,593
