The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items:

     5.   Donations 

          The Superintendent recommends the board accept donations triggered by hurricane Katrina to all schools in Long Beach School District. 

     6.   Trip Approvals

·        Quarles 5th grade Discovery students to the Challenger Learning Center in Baton Rouge, LA on April 18, 2007

·        Long Beach High School Student Council to Overton Park, Kansas on June 22-27, 2007 to attend the National Association of Student Councils Convention

·        Harper McCaughan 5th grade to Mobile, AL to visit the Exploreum on May 15, 2007

·        LBHS Student Council Sponsor and student to travel to Virginia/Washington D.C. on April 20-22, 2007 to attend RSVP (Raising Student Voice and Participation) training

·        Girls Golf Team and Coach to the State Invitational in Brandon, MS on April 16, 2007 (practice round and coaches meeting) and April 17, 2007 (tournament).

·        Middle School Excel Class to Mobile, AL for Pompeii Exhibit on May 4, 2007

 

7.   Single Source Purchase

·        To Capitol Hardware Company for re-key and lock replacement at Long Beach Middle School $104,760.00, Athletic Facility $26,991.00, Reeves Elementary School $59,136.00 and Quarles Elementary School $78,160.00 for a total amount of $269,047.00, purchase order number 67431.

 

D.   Request to Add Marketing II to High School Curriculum for 2007-08 School Year

     The Superintendent recommends adding Marketing II to the High School Curriculum for the 2007-08 school year.

 

E.   Request to Use School Facilities

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the following requests to use school facilities:

 

·        The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is requesting to use the high school baseball, softball, and football practice fields and middle school and high school gyms for a sports day camp on July 16-20, 2007 for Coast Boys and Girls Clubs of Long Beach, Pass Christian and Gulfport.

 

F.   Child Nutrition Summer Food Service Program

     The Superintendent recommends approval to operate the Child Nutrition Summer Food Service Program.

 

G.   Award Some Bids for Cafeteria Equipment

The Superintendent recommends awarding bids for 4 pass–thru heated cabinets from Associated and 4 milk coolers from Mobile Fixture and tabling the rest of the items for further research.

 

H.   Personnel

 

     1.   Resignations

The Superintendent recommends accepting the following resignations:

 

·        Patricia Newcomb is retiring at the close of the current school year

 

    

2.   Employment Recommendations

The Superintendent recommends employment of the following individuals for the remainder of the 2006-07 school year:

 

·        Catherine Lerner as Food Service Assistant at $7.00 per hour, effective March 14, 2007

·        Linda Corban as Food Service Assistant as Level 3/Step 0 @ $7.75 per hour, effective March 30, 2007.  She will be training as a manager until the end of this school year.

·        Robert Saucier as Food Service Student Worker at Long Beach High School @ $7.00 per hour, effective March 15, 2007.  He replaces Antonio Pickering

·        Cindy McGovern as housekeeper at Long Beach High School, effective February 26, 2007 at $8.50 per hour

·        Tiffany Brown as housekeeper at Long Beach Middle School, effective March 8, 2007 at $8.50 per hour

 

3.   Approval of Temporary Summer Help

The Superintendent recommends approval of temporary slots for the summer as discussed in the work session:

 

Slots at $8.50 per hour

·        5 slots for maintenance

·        4 slots for technology

·        3 slots for housekeeping at High School

·        2 slots for housekeeping at Middle School

·        2 slots for housekeeping at each elementary school

·        6 to 8 slots for moving crew

 

Slots at $10.00 per hour

·        12 to 15 slots for painting

 

4.   Change in Salary

The Superintendent recommends increasing

 

·        bus aide Susan Hawthorne’s salary from $7.25 per hour to $9.25 per hour, effective March 26, 2007

·        high school custodian Glenda May’s salary from $9.00 per hour to $10.50 per hour to serve as acting supervisor, effective March 26, 2007

The Superintendent recommends off-lining the following checks:

 

·        to Starks Contracting Company for $74,070.00

·        to Guild Hardy Architects for $932.64

 

I-B. Approval of 2007-08 Year Teacher Salary Schedule

The Superintendent recommends approval of the 2007-08 year teacher salary schedule.

 

J.   Executive Session

The Superintendent recommends going into executive session for student hearings.
