     The Superintendent recommends approval of the consent agenda which includes the following items:

     2.   Substitute Report

3.   Disposal of Surplus Equipment    

     4.   Donations 

          The Superintendent recommends the board accept donations triggered by hurricane Katrina to all schools in Long Beach School District. 

     5.   Single Source Purchases

·        To Mind Play, purchase order 63307 in the amount of $4,500

·        To Renaissance Learning for accelerated Math Program for Reeves

     6.   Trip Approvals

·        LBHS Forensics members (15) to St. Andrews Episcopal School in Ridgeland, MS on October 20-21, 2006 for speech competition

·        LBHS Youth Congress members (9) to (TBA destination) on November 17-18, 2006 for congressional competition

·        LBHS Mock Trial Teams to Hinds County Courthouse in Jackson on March 2-3, 2007, pending a win at Regional Competition & advancing to State Competition

·        Second grade classes at Quarles Elementary to Audubon Zoo in New Orleans in October, 2006.

E.   Acceptance of LB Substance Abuse Task Force Americares Grant

The Superintendent recommends allowing Elizabeth Rogers, a licensed professional counselor, hired by the LB Substance Abuse Task Force Americares Grant to provide counseling at Long Beach Middle School in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the following student acceptances/releases for the 2006-07 school year:

G.   Ratify Poll Votes

The Superintendent recommends ratifying the following majority “yes” poll votes of the school board taken on the following dates:

 

·        9/15/06 to allow 5 FCCLA (Family Career Community Leaders of America) officers/sponsor to attend the fall leadership meeting in Jackson, MS on October 2, 2006

·        9/22/06 to allow LBHS Boys Basketball Team to travel to New Orleans, LA on October 8, 15, 29; November 19; December 3, 17, 31, 2006 (all Sundays) to work New Orleans Saints home games working the Domino’s Pizza Booths

·        To allow LBMS Student Council to attend the Southern Association of Student Councils Convention in Knoxville, TN on October 7, 8, 9, return October 10, 2006

 

H.   Settle Potential Claim

The Superintendent recommends payment of $219.35 to settle a potential litigation claim for damage to a vehicle while our maintenance department was cutting grass.

 

I.   Create New Position for Technology Department

The Superintendent recommends creating another position as assistant systems administrator in the technology department.

 

J    Request for Additional Teacher to Monitor after Hours Detention

     The Superintendent recommends hiring a teacher to monitor after hours detention.

 

K.   Approve Revised Crisis Management Plan

     The Superintendent recommends approval of the revised crisis management plan which includes incident command system.

 

L.   Personnel

     1.   Resignations

The Superintendent recommends accepting the following resignations:

 

·        April Daniels, teacher assistant at Harper McCaughan Elementary, resigned effective October 2, 2006

 

     2.   Employment Recommendations

The Superintendent recommends employment of the following individuals for the remainder of the 2006-07 school year:

 

·        Tracy Mitchell as teacher assistant/personal care assistant at Long Beach Middle School, effective October 2, 2006, contingent upon passing the Teacher Assistant Test

·        Stephanie Bennett as Title I teacher assistant at Harper McCaughan, effective October 13, 2006

·        Judy Christo as housekeeper at Reeves Elementary, effective August 23, 2006 at $8.50 per hour, with benefits effective September 23, 2006

·        Bajda Johnson as housekeeper at Long Beach High School, effective August 23, 2006 at $8.50 per hour, with benefits effective September 23, 2006

·        Toni Colvin as food service assistant substitute @ $7.00 per hour, effective October 2, 2006

·        Brenda Anderson as food service assistant substitute @ $7.00 per hour, effective September 29, 2006

·        Carrie Patterson as food service assistant substitute @ $7.00 per hour, effective September 29, 2006

·        Amanda Stevens as food service assistant substitute @ $7.00 per hour, effective September 15, 2006

·        Jennifer Debusk as food service assistant substitute @ $7.00 per hour, effective September 15, 2006

·        Keary Burger to teach AP Government class during the second semester as a sunrise class.  This would involve compensation in addition to the regular contract pay.

·        Slade Jones as assistant high school baseball coach

·        Suzanne Simmons be paid $467.16 out of Title I for 12 hours (at her normal hourly rate) for summer tutorial sessions at Harper McCaughan

 

3.   Pay Adjustments

The Superintendent recommends pay adjustments for two housekeepers at Long Beach High School.  Mattie Magee will go from Salary Schedule T, Level 5, Step 1 to Salary Schedule T, Level 5 Step 2 ($8.75 to $9.00 per hour) and Glenda May will go from Salary Schedule T, Level 5, Step 0 to Salary Schedule T, Level 5, step 2 ($8.50 to $9.00 per hour)

 

M.   Request Permission to Hold Fund Raiser

Superintendent Hamilton requests permission to do a fund raiser to benefit Nickel Mines School Victims in Strasburg, PA.
